Lidl Northern Ireland and FareShare Launch Emergency Coronavirus Food Donation Appeal

Starting March 28th, Lidl and FareShare will launch an emergency food appeal in stores across Northern Ireland to support those in need during these challenging times. Lidl is appealing to customers who would like to purchase an extra tinned or long shelf-life product to leave it on a dedicated trolley in stores this weekend, Saturday March 28th and Sunday March 29th. Donations will then be distributed through FareShare to local charities and food banks.

Commenting on the appeal, Conor Boyle, Regional Director Northern Ireland said, ‘At Lidl, we want to ensure that we do everything in our power to look out for the more vulnerable members of our communities at this difficult time.  With the generosity of our customers and by utilising our existing infrastructure with FareShare we will be able to quickly get the essential supplies to those in need.’

Speaking about the dedicated food appeal, Joanna Dyson, Head of Food at FareShare said ‘At FareShare we're determined to continue delivering vital food supplies to charities across Northern Ireland, and we're delighted that Lidl have stepped in to support us during the coronavirus crisis. Every tin and packet donated by generous customers will reach charities providing a lifeline to those who are most at risk, including children and families and those who are sick and self-isolating.’

Lidl’s long-standing partnership with FareShare was established in 2014, and now has a network in place that supports a food redistribution programme across Northern Ireland which sees Lidl’s stores and warehouse connected with local charities to donate surplus food to those in need.
